In 2011, A Combined Preclinical Therapy of Cannabinoids and Temozolomide against Glioma Tumors in Nude Mice
BACKGROUND: This study looked at the combined effects of Temozolomide (TMZ) and cannabinoids THC and CBD on gliomas. TMZ is the standard treatment for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Researchers tested if adding cannabinoids could improve the treatment. Nude mice with induced tumors were treated in groups. Each group received THC, CBD, TMZ, or a combination for 14 days.
METHODS AND RESULTS: The combination of TMZ with cannabinoids showed stronger antitumor effects than any single treatment. This research supports the potential of cannabinoids as a therapy alongside chemotherapy for gliomas.
